I know that the “official unofficial” end of summer is still two more weeks away, but for me, it ends now.
Freshmen are on campus for orientation, traffic is starting to pick up around campus, and classes start Wednesday.
So my wife, son, and I decided to celebrate by going out to dinner. We were hoping to try somewhere new where we could dine al fresco, and we decided on City Works in King of Prussia.
It was a perfect night to be outside. The sun was setting, the temperature was just right, and there was a festive atmosphere at the King of Prussia Town Center. The center is an outdoor shopping, dining, and residential complex, featuring a Town Square where patrons can relax and enjoy the open green space framed by decorative water features and a custom 60-foot fire wall. And tonight that space was being utilized exactly as the developers had envisioned.
The food was quite good. My son had a burger and fries, along with an Aloha Friday, a pineapple cider beer. My wife had fish tacos and I had a veggie burger and fries. It was one of the best veggie burgers I’ve ever had, and the fries were quite tasty as well. While waiting for dinner, my son ran across to Duck Donuts and got a cinnamon sugar donut to have for dessert. He told us it was as good as Brown’s Donuts in Ocean City, NJ – there is no higher praise for a donut.
(He also said he thinks it would be cool to open up a donut and beer cafe, since the two seemed to go together so well…)
It’s nights like this which explain why summer is my favorite time of the year.
It brought back memories of a post I wrote last summer where I talked about my best night of summer 2016, when we got to see Gaelic Storm in concert.
Harry Chapin was right, life is like a circle. While the years may keep rolling by, my hope is that nights like tonight keep coming around again and again and again…
