One of my California cousins, who I have not seen for 49 years, took us on a great driving tour of some beautiful beach towns in Southern California.
Starting in Oceanside, we drove south through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Torrey Pines, and ended in La Jolla.
We stopped off in La Jolla Shores and had the chance to feel the sand between our toes and the cool waters of the Pacific. The shoreline is quite different than the Jersey shoreline, which is the one I am most familiar with. The views are much more dramatic, with some dramatic changes in elevation along the shoreline, and mountain ranges to the east.
It was the kind of day that gets people California Dreamin’, with brilliant sunshine, clear blue skies, and temperatures in the low 80s
I can see why people fall in love with California; the scenery is beautiful, the weather is close to ideal, and people seem friendly and healthy. (In fact, the day started off with my cousin taking my son and I on a little hike through a bird sanctuary in search of a hidden lake, which we successfully found. It was the perfect way to get the heart pumping.)
We still have several days left on our trip to the Golden State, yet my son and I are already talking about our next trip back here.
Thank you Irena for being such a good tour guide; it was a perfect way to spend a Sunday. Let’s not wait another 49 years…
