My Favorite Movies

Our family was talking about our favorite movies the other night, and there have been so many great movies that it was hard to pick some as favorites. As I started naming some of my favorites, others would come to mind that I had forgotten about. So I thought it might be helpful if I wrote a blog about my favorite movies so that I would always have the list available to me, and I could tweak it a bit now and then.

So here is a listing of my favorite movies, in no particular order (but if I had to pick one as my overall favorite, it would probably be Chariots of Fire).

  • Chariots of Fire
  • Annie Hall
  • Begin Again
  • Mr. Holland’s Opus
  • Napoleon Dynamite
  • Chef
  • Ace Ventura
  • The Artist
  • The Illusionist
  • Poolhall Junkies
  • Yankee Doodle Dandy
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Up
  • No Way Out
  • Charlie Varrick
  • Duel
  • Absence of Malice
  • Pitch Perfect
  • Sound of Music
  • Shawshank Redemption
  • Toy Story
  • War of the Buttons
  • Waking Ned Devine
  • The Hundred-Foot Journey
  • Stand By Me
  • Rocky
  • The Prestige
  • Cinema Paradisio
  • Family Man
  • Saturday Night Fever
  • It’s a Wonderful Life

I think I’ll end my list here; there’s probably a few others I could add to the list that I can’t think of at the moment. But now that I have the list, it will make it easier for me to keep track of my favorites.

One way I think of a movie as being one of my favorites is that if I were channel surfing and one of these movies came on, I would probably sit and watch it.

Now that I’ve got my list, I feel like checking out Netflix this weekend and seeing which movies on my list are available. Seems like a good way to get through Hurricane Hermine…

  1. You named some good ones there. I’ve heard of most of them, but I’m not familiar with War of the Buttons.
Chariots of Fire is a great one (even before I became a runner, I thought it was an excellent film).
    My top 3:
    – The Wizard of Oz (which we got to see on the big screen last month when some locals revived an old movie theater).
    – To Kill a Mockingbird (it’s one of my 3 favorite books, too).
    – The Princess Bride. (I noticed that isn’t on your list. If you haven’t seen it, watch it.)
    Happy viewing!

    1. War of the Buttons is a movie set in Ireland looking at the rivalry between two groups of school age boys. My wife and I thought it was great. I think I’ll add Wizard of Oz to my list; I forgot about it. To Kill a Mockingbird is also among my favorite books. As to the Princess Bride, I’ve seen it and enjoyed it, but not sure it would make my list. My wife loves it though.
