Yesterday we had the chance to celebrate the wedding of my niece down at the Jersey Shore. The bride, the groom, and their daughter were radiant, and the weather was perfect.
It was wonderful seeing so many happy people in one place, all sharing in such a joyous event. My wife’s sister and her husband, the bride’s parents, were bursting with pride, and rightly so. Their oldest son performed the ceremony, their other three daughters were bridesmaids, and their youngest son played the guitar at the ceremony. In addition, their many friends, neighbors, and relatives were there to help celebrate the special day – and to keep the dance floor hopping.
It was also a rare chance for our family to be all together, since our two oldest sons were in town from Raleigh and Hilo for the wedding. Along with our youngest son, they had a great time hanging with their cousins. It was also nice that my Aunt was able to join us for the festivities.
Weddings are a great way to launch the married couple into their new life together. The wedding ceremony is a great way to publicly express their love for each other, and the wedding reception is a great reminder of all the love and support they have from friends and relatives.
A wedding reminds me of a sunrise; it’s the start of a brand new day, with a world of possibilities. It also reminds me of the following Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. I’ve used this strip before, which goes to show how it can be applied to so many situations.
So congratulations to Eric and Mikey; I wish you a life full of love, happiness, and exploring!
